What is Infertility

When a couple tries to have a child unsuccessfully, for more than a year of regular sexual intercourse and without protection, then the couple is considered as having infertility problems. Infertility increases with age and is a problem which appears quite frequently both in the male and the female population.

If the infertility is attributed to the man, then we are talking about male infertility, and for diagnosing it taking the patient’s history and his clinical examination are crucial. The existence of diseases like diabetes, mumps or previous surgery in the genital system, are important infertility indications which will guide the doctor.

Are you looking for an immediate solution to your problem?

When a patient comes to Androclinic he will feel comfortably from the first moment. From a simple consultation and introduction appointment, to the tests, the checks and the final treatment to be followed, the man – and the couple – will receive detailed information by the staff about every stage they go through.

SYMPTOMS & CAUSES OF INFERTILITY

Symptoms

Not achieving pregnancy after a year of regular sexual intercourse without protection is the main symptom.

Other symptoms that may indicate infertility in the man are changes in his hair growth, changes in his desire for sexual intercourse, testicular edema, but also erection or ejaculation problems.

These symptoms may be related to other urological disorders, therefore the correct diagnosis in the only alternative!

Causes of Male Infertility

The most frequent causes of male infertility are the following:

Varicocele

Azoospermia

Genetic mutations in the cystic fibrosis gene

 Hormonal disorders, like thyroid disorder

Inflammations & Infections, like prostatitis, mycoplasm etc.

Other aggravating factors, like stress, bad quality nutrition, smoking, alcohol etc.

INFERTILITY DIAGNOSIS – INVESTIGATION

The first tests

Semen analysis (spermiogram) is the test which accurately determines if the sperm cells are capable of fertilizing, while at the same time providing a lot of information about their quantity and formation. This test is usually the first to be performed in a male infertility check.

The next step are blood tests for measuring indicators like FSH and LH, the hormones responsible for sperm production and testosterone level. Also, the value in white blood cells must be determined, as they are responsible for many infections which may harm semen.

Testicular micro-TESE biopsy

Testicular micro-TESE biopsy (Testicular Sperm Extraction) is a specific type of testicular biopsy which offers a solution to men suffering from azoospermia.

Micro-TESE biopsy must be carried out with the use of a microscope which helps investigate the testicle in order to determine areas with well-formed seminiferous tubules.

Since if there are sperm cells, these will be in these tubules and not in destroyed ones, this avoids taking useless testicular tissue and increases the possibilities of finding sperm cells.

In Androclinic we address male infertility at the root of the problem and investigatively – with the suitable tests and based on the patient’s history and profile – and we proceed to an individualized treatment protocol.

INDIVIDUALIZED INFERTILITY TREATMENTS

Counseling

Giving up “bad habits” (smoking, alcohol, anabolics, constant exposure to heat) to begin with, is a very important factor and way of addressing specifically infertility of non-organic origin.

Hormonal Treatment

Hormonal treatment is a very frequent method for treating infertility. It is used when testosterone levels are low (hypogonadotropic hypogonadism) and cause problems with spermatogenesis.

Surgical Treatment

It is suggested in cases where infertility is caused by pathological factors. The doctor may choose special microsurgical interventions or surgery for the ligature of the internal spermatic vein in cases of varicocele.

Together we will find the treatment that will relieve you.
